Greetings, denizens of the Intertrons. I spent the better part of my afternoon brewing what I hope will be an appropriate addition to the coming holiday season: pumpkin ale.
For those of you who are so inclined, today’s concoction consists of:
- 10lbs pale malt
- 12oz. Crystal malt, 60L
- 8oz. Caramunich 40
- 8oz. Biscuit malt
- 6oz. Carapils
- 0.4oz Nugget 12.5% at 60 minutes (boiling hops)
- 0.75oz Liberty 4.5% at 10 minutes (finishing hops)
- Spices at 5 minutes—3tsp cinnamon, 0.5tsp ginger, 0.5tsp nutmeg, 0.5 tsp cloves, 0.25tsp allspice, and 0.25tsp vanilla extract (faux pumpkin taste)
- Pitch 1272 for fermentation
The success or failure of this batch should be known by the end of the month. Stay tuned!

I heard of people putting real pumpkin in the fermenter. Frankly, the thought of that scares me. Looking forward to hearing how this turns out.
